Story: Beef farming

Modern Angus cattle

Modern Angus cattle

These are the modern type of Angus cattle, in the Rangitātā valley in the South Island high country. The cows are bigger than the small, squat type that was run in Scotland and became popular in New Zealand in the early 20th century. They are clearly thriving in this hard country, which can have cold winters and dry summers.
