Dairy Cattle Research Unit

Dairy Cattle Research Unit

Massey University has three dairy farms, four sheep and beef farms (including one in the Wairarapa), and a deer farm. The university farms a total 2,000 hectares, with about 12,000 sheep, 1,000 beef cattle, 1,100 dairy cattle and 170 deer. On one of the dairy farms, called the Dairy Cattle Research Unit, half the area is managed under an organic farming regime. Results are compared to those from the other half of the farm, which is managed conventionally.
