Kiore (Pacific rat)

These kiore (Pacific rats) were photographed on Little Barrier Island (Hauturu). Kiore arrived in New Zealand with the Polynesian ancestors of Māori, around the 13th century. Kiore are bigger than mice, but smaller than other rats.
