Throughout the region many dairy and sheep farms on the edge of town have been subdivided into lifestyle blocks of a few hectares on which well-off Aucklanders fleeing the suburbs build large houses. Many run a few animals or begin cottage industries. Others commute to Auckland or work from home. These houses are near Albany.
