Providing shelter is a necessary part of kiwifruit management. Orchards are often completely surrounded by shelter that is at least twice as tall as the vines. This reduces soil moisture loss, improves conditions for flower pollination by bees, reduces buffeting of fruit by wind, and minimises chemical spray drift.
