Story: Beetles

Coxella weevil (2nd of 3)

Coxella weevil

The coxella weevil (Hadramphus spinipennis) is found on the predator-free Rangatira and Mangere islands, which are part of the Chatham Islands. The weevil appears to feed solely on the speargrass Aciphylla dieffenbachii, itself rare. The decline of the plant on islands of the Chathams is mirrored by a decline in the beetle population, and coxella weevils are now only known from these two locations.
