River bike race (2nd of 2)

River bike race

The Leith River, which flows through Dunedin, is the course of an annual bike race, held during the University of Otago capping week. Parts of the riverbed are smooth enough to cycle on, but for most of the distance the competitors carry their bikes. The crowds on the banks shout encouragement or throw eggs.
