Coral broom (Carmichaelia crassicaule) is one of 23 species of native broom, and is found in shrublands and grasslands in the dry areas of the South Island. Coral broom is usually leafless and has grooved stems and branches. It can grow up to 2 metres tall, but animals browsing on its stems usually prevent it from reaching this height.
