Framing the landscape

Park ranger Peter Rowberry examines a large frame which was placed in front of a waterfall in the Hūnua Range in 1998. The Auckland Regional Council put the ‘natural masterpiece frames’ in various scenic spots as a marketing ploy, causing an outcry from some people. The installations suggested that people view the landscape through various frames – literal or psychological.
