Story: Tall broadleaf trees

Tītoki fruit and leaves

Tītoki fruit and leaves

Tītoki’s shiny black seeds, partially embedded in a fleshy scarlet covering, are exposed when its furry fruit capsules open. The ripe fruits are attractive to birds, which spread the seeds. Tītoki fruits take about a year to develop, and ripen in early summer.
