Story: Southern beech forest

Mixed forest, Ship Cove, Marlborough Sounds

Mixed forest, Ship Cove, Marlborough Sounds

Beech forest grows on dry ridges (dark green) and the highest slopes of the Marlborough Sounds. The lower slopes and gullies carry regenerating broadleaf trees, and mature broadleaf forest grows on the mid-slopes above the memorial cairn to James Cook.
