Story: Conifers

Kauri yacht

Kauri yacht

Kauri was a popular wood with boat builders. This kauri gaff cutter, Waitangi, was the last major yacht built by Robert Logan. Launched in 1894, she was built of diagonal and horizontally planked kauri over kauri frames. She won the Wellington Anniversary Regatta the following year, and for a number of years was successfully raced in New Zealand waters.
