Sea lion and megaherbs

Sea lion and megaherbs

This Hooker's sea lion pup provides a scale for comparison with the megaherb Bulbinella rossii on Enderby Island, one of the Auckland Islands. Megaherbs have giant leaves that may be an adaptation to the cloudy, southern ocean climate. The greater surface area harvests more energy from the sun.
