The Norfolk Island pine (Araucaria heterophylla), seen here growing on Norfolk Island, is endemic to Norfolk Island, an Australian territory, although it is widely grown in New Zealand’s coastal areas. Biologically the island’s plants and animals have more in common with New Zealand’s northern offshore islands than with Australia. The kauri (Agathis australis) is related to the Norfolk Island pine.
