This tree daisy (Olearia lyalli) is growing on the subantarctic Snares Islands, 200 kilometres south of New Zealand. It is named after the naturalist and surgeon David Lyall, who sailed on the Acheron during a survey of New Zealand waters from November 1848 to March 1851. He originally noted the shrub on Campbell Island, the country’s southernmost offshore island.
