The Auckland Vietnamese community established an association in 1988 and initially worshipped in a small house in Ōtāhuhu. By the 2000s the community’s place of worship was the 4,000 sq m Giac Nhien Temple, also in Ōtāhuhu. These priests, photographed in Auckland in 2001, pray facing the Buddha statue in the temple’s main hall.
