Primitive gas stoves were first available in New Zealand in the 1860s, when coal gasworks were established in the main cities. In the 1930s Radiation New Zealand, the company that made the Champion brand of gas stoves, published a cookbook. The cover highlighted the Champion's temperature regulation; innovations like this allowed for more precise cooking.
