The second-series £50 banknote is red. Like the second-series £10 note, the obverse side depicts the coat of arms, a ship, a canoe and James Cook, and a three-sided border. The denomination appears in three corners. Alongside an oval watermark panel, the main image on the reverse is a dairy-farming scene before Mt Taranaki, showing grazing cows. The large border depicts Māori and European iconography and contains the bank’s legend and a tūī. The denomination appears along the bottom in words and in numerals on the corners.
