Seal of the province of Hawke’s Bay

Seal of the province of Hawke’s Bay

This wax impression of the seal of the province of Hawke’s Bay was made in 1858, the year the province was established. It had previously been part of Wellington province. A seal was an indication of authority and seriousness of purpose – attributes that provincial councils sought, but did not always achieve.
