Story: Composers

Earth and sky by Jenny McLeod

Members of the cast, which included 250 schoolchildren, rehearse for the first production of Jenny McLeod's Earth and sky in Masterton in 1968. Based on Māori creation poetry, the work was a music-theatre extravaganza, and its success made a contribution to New Zealand's burgeoning biculturalism. This sound clip contains an excerpt from the work.
