Reserve land

Most people tramp in New Zealand’s national parks, reserves and other land managed by the Department of Conservation. This is mainly on mountain ranges where most of the original vegetation cover remains. There are thousands of kilometres of tracks and well over 1,000 public huts in the backcountry.
