Distribution of shrublands

Shrublands are found scattered throughout New Zealand, often in association with forests and alpine grasslands. They may be temporary in nature, eventually developing into forest or becoming permanent – on exposed coasts, in alpine areas, on infertile or wet soils, or very dry land.
