Murray Ball produced the strip ‘Bruce the Barbarian’ for the British Labour Party magazine Labour Weekly from 1971 until 1978. The strip pitted Bruce, a socialist warrior from Footrot Flats, New Zealand, against the wealthy and malevolent upper classes of the ancient Roman Empire, an often thinly veiled caricature of Ted Heath’s Conservative government.
