One of the best known artists using moving images, Alex Monteith, has experimented with both film and video installations. 'Sonic pixel and the blockbuster' was a performance and experimental cinema event that played with live sound accompaniment at the New Zealand International Film Festival in 2006. Two projections played in sync on separate video channels. On one, the final 15 minutes of the top 15 highest grossing films until 2006 played simultaneously, each overlaid at 7.5% opacity, unedited. On the other (shown here) the final 15 minutes of the 15 top grossing films until 1956 played.
