These photographs show some of the scenes removed from films by Chief Film Censor Gordon Mirams in 1956. Mirams had a genuine interest in 'art' films but was concerned about the influence of violence in movies intended for younger audiences. He was particularly worried by films that might encourage juvenile delinquency, such as The wild one, which he banned, and Rebel without a cause, which he gave an R16 certificate.
