Story: Popular music

Ray Columbus and the Invaders, 1964

Ray Columbus and his band were among the leaders of the Christchurch rock 'n' roll scene in the early 1960s. They moved to Auckland in 1962 and the band, now called Ray Columbus and the Invaders, was signed to Zodiac Records. They produced a series of hits, the best known of which are 'She's a mod' and 'Till we kissed'. This promotional film for 'She's a mod' was taken from the band's performance on the Australian music show Bandstand in 1964. It was the first time a New Zealand band had used film for promotional purposes.
