Story: Pacific Islands and New Zealand

Colonial control in the Pacific

Colonial relationships between Pacific Island communities and European nations are shown here in 1901, 1951 and 2001. These relationships were fundamental to New Zealand's interactions in the Pacific. The strongest ties were with those islands either colonised by Britain or with major links to it, and this remained the case in the 2000s.
