Story: Migrant and refugee organisations

India Festival, 2010

Dancers at the 2010 India Festival in South Auckland perform above Radio Tarana's banner. Radio Tarana 1386 AM, set up in 1996, broadcasts news, sport, community activities and music to Auckland's Hindi-language Indian community. It also sponsors community events. Migrant and refugee media such as Radio Tarana provide a voice for non-English-speaking migrants and refugees, and also enable longer-term New Zealanders to experience very different cultures.
