Story: Dairying and dairy products

Taranaki dairy factories

In the first half of the 20th century Mt Taranaki (Mt Egmont) was encircled by seven dairy factories, with a further three south of Hāwera. All of these have now closed. Click on each site to see the buildings as they were in the early 2000s. The sole factory now is the large modern factory at Whareroa, near the site of an earlier factory.
