This graph shows the PhDs awarded by New Zealand universities in maths, physics and chemistry from 2006 to 2012. Over half of the degrees were in chemistry, perhaps reflecting the greater number of employment opportunities in this area. About half of the PhDs went to overseas students who had come to New Zealand to study.
