Before 1921 Dalmatians who came to New Zealand were classified as Austrians in the immigration statistics. From then, they were included in the statistics for people arriving from the former Yugoslavia. The 2001 census was the last in which New Zealand residents born in Yugoslavia were recorded. These figures therefore provide a rough indication of Dalmatian-born people in New Zealand until 2001.
