A 2001 survey of apartment (or multi-unit) residents in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch found that of those living in the inner city the largest proportion were aged in their 20s. This reflected a desire among young adults to be close to city workplaces, universities and amenities such as shops, cafés and nightspots.
