Centennial Drama Festival, Auckland, 1940

Alongside the musical festivals held in the main centres, a number of community drama festivals were also held. This programme is from the finals of the Auckland competition, where groups including the WEA Dramatic Club, the Avondale Women's Institute and the Auckland Training College Drama Club competed to take out the Auckland title – which was won by Auckland Repertory Theatre with Sordid story. The national finals were held at Wellington's Town Hall and were won by the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society with its performance of Noel Coward's Family album
