A number of nicknames have been bestowed on New Zealand. One nickname no longer current is 'Maoriland'. It was used on this postcard, which was sent to England around 1911, to covey a uniquely New Zealand salutation. The woman at top left, shown saying 'Kia ora', is Mākereti (Maggie) Papakura, a well-known Rotorua tourist guide.
