The cult horror comedy Bad taste was Wellington director Peter Jackson's first feature film. Most of it was shot in and around Jackson's home town of Pukerua Bay. It took four years because the crew and cast (which included Jackson himself) could only work on weekends. This deliberately gross tale of cannibal space aliens was selected for the Cannes Film Festival and gave Jackson his entrée to Hollywood.
