Regional council responsibilities

The 19th century provinces were preoccupied with development. In the early 21st century regional councils also manage the environment, including waterways. Amongst the responsibilities of the Northland Regional Council is the maintenance of navigation lights for the region's 17 harbours, including this light on Perpendicular Point, at the entrance to Houhora Harbour.
