This is the second issue of the magazine Freed, which was founded by the young poet Alan Brunton in 1969. Brunton had been a student at Auckland University, and other former students who contributed included Ian Wedde, Murray Edmond and Leigh Davis. The image on the cover is the work of the Auckland painter Pat Hanly.
