Story: Older people

Winston Peters, 2005

Winston Peters, 2005

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters was popular with older voters. Many of the party's policies focused on issues of concern to this age group, and Peters proved himself a charismatic leader in the eyes of supporters. This 2005 cartoon shows Peters on a stage in front of an adoring crowd of older women. His persona is merged with that of performer Tom Jones, who is infamous for being showered with women's underwear during concerts. Don Brash, the National Party leader at the time, waits forlornly in the wings.
