Story: Men and women in the city

Garden shed

Garden shed

As well as a place for storing garden and other tools, the backyard shed was where men tinkered and fixed things. Nevile Lodge’s 1967 cartoon about the extension of hotel closing hours also satirises the shed as a ‘male space’, by having the woman bar access.
