Story: Spending in the economy

Spending public money

Spending public money

Of all government spending, that of Parliamentarians generates the most heat. In this cartoon (drawn during the term of a Labour government) Labour, National, New Zealand First and Green members of Parliament are seen taking off on an overseas junket, reflecting a popular view that wasteful spending of public money crosses political party boundaries.
