Story: Walsh, Austin Leonard and Walsh, Vivian Claude

New Zealand Flying School, Auckland

A modern colour artwork showing a cluster of buildings near the shoreline, bare hills behind them and housing in the distance, with an aircraft overhead

Artists Rosie Louise and Terry Moyle based this artwork on contemporary photographs of the New Zealand Flying School at Mission Bay, Auckland. The buildings include aircraft hangars behind the central pines and student accommodation to the right of the hangars. The old mission house in the central foreground served as a dining room and the adjacent flat-roofed building as an operations and briefing room. The school’s Supermarine Channel flying boat is overhead.
