Ancient traditions of the Maori

This image of moko kurī – a type of Māori tattoo – was published in John White's book Ancient history of the Maori. In the 19th century White put together volumes of tribal information from various Māori experts from around the country, many of whom wrote down and sent him their tribal traditions.
