This watercolour, possibly by Charles Enderby, the leader of the settlement, shows the buildings at Port Ross on the Auckland Islands, which were erected by the Southern Whale Fishery Company to house and provide for more than 200 settlers. The painting was discovered in the possession of a family in Staplehurst, Kent, in 1961.
