Painted by Archibald Nicoll in 1949, this portrait is of Albert Tocker, professor of economics at Canterbury College from 1921 to 1950, and rector from 1943 to 1950. Tocker made a major contribution to the understanding of international finance, with an analysis of New Zealand banking in relation to the international role of the sterling (the British pound).
