This sculpture by Muaūpoko artist Shane James includes a taiaha (traditional weapon) modelled on one that belonged to a prominent Muaūpoko chief named Tanguru. The end of the taiaha that was decorated with dog hair and feathers was used to jab and distract an opponent, before the sharp-edged blade was brought down swiftly to deliver a fatal blow.
