Story: Patupaiarehe

Making nets

Making nets

Patupaiarehe were said to be expert net makers. In this artwork by Brian Flintoff, ‘Patupaiarehe making nets and dreaming fish into them’, the patupaiarehe are on either side of the net, catching many different types of fish. In one story a chief, Kahukura, managed to trick the patupaiarehe into leaving behind their net, so that he could find out how they made them.
