Disabled soldiers race at the annual Wellington limbless soldiers' picnic at Worser Bay, Wellington, in the 1920s. The picnic, organised by the Evans Bay Yacht Club, provided one of the few opportunities for 'limbies', veterans with leg amputations, and 'wingies', veterans with arm amputations, to compete in a range of sports events. While the events were informal, they were divided according to disabilities to ensure fair competition.
