In the early 2000s chronic peak-hour congestion on Auckland’s motorways led planners to promote greater public transport use. On the northern motorway one lane was given over to buses, significantly reducing peak-hour travel times. This is the Albany bus station in 2008. Commuters used their cars to travel to the station before transferring to buses for the trip to work.
