Story: City planning

Rebuilt Napier

Video file

In 1931 a large earthquake and subsequent fire destroyed central Napier. Rebuilding allowed the erection of new buildings and the introduction of town-planning measures such as the placement of power and telephone cables underground. This 1950 film shows ‘a modern city risen from the ashes’.
