The Shin SakuraMaru floating trade ship visited Wellington in 1976. Dominating its main showroom was this huge metal mural representing the large variety of Japanese industries. Japanese industry was hit hard by the rapid increase in oil prices in 1973–74, because oil was a critical input and wholly imported. By 1976 Japanese industry had regained its momentum.
